Standalone Weblog Platform
IMPORTANT NOTE: The first thing that has to be said and considered is the fundamental understanding that in order to make any money on the internet the most important factor is traffic. Even if you have the best blog with the most efficient conversion model available, if you don’t have traffic you aren’t going to make money.
A Standalone Weblog Platform is sometimes called a Content Management System (CMS) which basically represents a program that is set-up in your domain to manage all the content (e.g. blog entries, comments etc.) With these standalone weblog platforms, setting up the system, domain, hosting, designing the themes and so forth is quite a laborious job.
The main advantage to this type of platform is that you own everything in the blog and can control everything related to it. You don’t have to rely on the “goodwill” of hosting companies to give you their server space for free. There is something that most people don’t consider, as your blog progresses, the load on the server from your blog will increase with the number of visitors you get. Thus if you actually own the hosting space, domain etc. you can directly control the amount of resources you want to spare for the blog. However with hosted weblog platforms, the bigger your blog gets the more you are asking from the hosting company in terms of resources which also increases the likelihood of them shutting down your blog due to the resource strain on their server.
The hosting company does not have the right to do anything with your account unless you are violating some copyright or trademark and thus can’t ever close down your blog when they feel like it. They can be held responsible for any losses suffered from any downtime that their server may have caused.
Additionally, when it comes to standalone weblog platforms the best thing is that you are the complete master of your blog, your blog can take the form of anything that your creativity can conjure up, of course the limiting factor being normal computing requirements of HTML and so-forth. You can effectively let your imagination run wild and make you blog look as different to any other blog out there.
